Government of India’s target of 2030 for mass-scale adoption of EVs (30% of total new registered vehicles) would require an extensive charging infrastructure. The GOI’s target translates to about 100 million EVs and it necessitates 2.9 million chargers and 1.2 million public chargers. The scale of the target faces hurdles in form of lack of localized development and integrated systems for energy management. The import of chargers’ devoid pacesetting (high charging times) with the charging technology of new EVs. The imported chargers miss out on same functionality due to local grid, dust and heat conditions, lack of repairability thereby reducing usability.
